ZONTA International

ZONTA International is a worldwide network of women in business and the professions, founded in 1919 in the USA and since 1930 also in Europe. In more than 1’250 clubs in 67 countries on 5 continents approx. 32'500 members work together to advance the status of women and their education on international and national levels, e.g. through various fellowship awards and prices. As of today in Switzerland and in Liechtenstein there are 23 clubs.

Zonta members

·         work together to improve the education and advance the status of women,

·          benefit from an international network of women in all professions,

·          meet women on a local, national and international level and share their experience,

·          support local, national and international relief projects, so called service projects, mainly for women and children, therefore the additional expression service organisation.

Since 1963 ZONTA enjoys Non-Governmental Organisation status with ECOSOC, UNESCO, UNICEF, UNIFEM and the International Labour Office ILO. Since 1983 in the European Council.

In recent years Zonta supported development projects all over the world, e.g. Strategies to prevent violence against women in India, Anti-Trafficking Project in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Improving Women’s Lives in Afghanistan, Eliminating Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus in Afghanistan by immunising women, Micro Credit and Health Education for HIV/AIDS-Affected Women in Niger.

 In Switzerland Zonta supported several national projects e.g. in the cantons Ticino, Grisons, Jura, Berne and in Central Switzerland. In addition each club supports its own local service projects.
